The McKinney-Vento Competitive Grant is available every three years through a competitive application process administered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). New York State local educational agencies (LEAs), which for the purposes of this RFP are public school districts, charter schools, and BOCES, are eligible to apply for this funding opportunity. BOCES may only apply as a part of a consortium. New York City (NYC) Public Schools is the eligible school district applicant in NYC, not individual Geographic School Districts.
Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Education, through the Education of Homeless Children and Youth Program authorized by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act. McKinney-Vento grant awards are contingent on the annual state allocation. Approximately $7.5 million per year is expected to be available.
